Why Us

Training Philosophy

Explore the deeper purpose behind our training approach, from structured progression and discipline to long-term character development.

Traditional Chito-Ryu — not fitness karate. A complete martial arts system with an unbroken lineage from Okinawa, taught by an instructor who has trained in Japan every year since 1985.

Training Philosophy
Chito-Ryu is a complete martial arts system. That means punching, kicking, throwing, joint locks, and pressure point techniques — all within a structured, progressive training system. It is not sport karate and it is not cardio. Every technique has a purpose.
The kata — formal practice sequences — are the backbone of Chito-Ryu. Each kata encodes real fighting applications. You learn them correctly from the start, not as a performance routine, but as a reference library for technique.
The lineage is unbroken. Chito-Ryu was founded by Dr Tsuyoshi Chitose and draws on ancient Okinawan Toudoi traditions. Sensei Noonan was graded personally by Soke Chitose — the Supreme Chito-Ryu instructor — and has trained in Japan every year since 1985.

What We Don't Do

This is not fitness karate

Most gyms offering "karate" or "martial arts" are running aerobics classes with a belt system. There is no lineage, no kata depth, no real self-defense. The instructors are often part-time staff who trained for two years and were handed a class. That is not what you get here. The techniques are real. The system is complete.
