Karate Classes in Hurstville Grove for Kids & Adults
Quiet, leafy Hurstville Grove sits a few minutes from the dojo — a calm suburb and a focused place to train.
Hurstville Grove is the quiet, green side of the area — separate houses, the reserves around Moore Park and Oatley Bay, families who have settled in for the long haul. It is a relaxed place to live, and a dojo with real structure tends to be a good counterweight for kids who have plenty of room to roam. We are a full-time Chito-Ryu dojo in Peakhurst, only about 5 km away, and a number of Hurstville Grove families already train with us.
Hurstville Grove to our Peakhurst dojo is only about 5 km, a short drive of well under 15 minutes for most of the day. At that distance there is no real trip to plan around — training slots straight into a weeknight. Classes run Monday through Saturday, including weekday evenings and Saturday mornings, so families can settle on a regular time. The dojo is also a short walk from Mortdale Station if you would rather not drive.

New to Karate? Starting from Hurstville Grove Is Easy
Most people who come to us from Hurstville Grove are starting from scratch — a young child, or an adult who has thought about it for years — and that is exactly what a first class is set up for. Nothing needs buying beforehand: no uniform, no gear, just something comfortable to move in. Our senior instructor team takes new starters every week and eases each one in at the right level, so the first session is never about keeping up with a room that already knows the moves.
Three programs built around age and where each person is at — not one class with a different name on it. Everyone trains at the right level, with the right focus.

Classes run Monday–Thursday evenings + Saturday mornings
Classes run on weekday evenings and across Saturday morning, which fits the unhurried rhythm of Hurstville Grove — training around school, weekend sport at the local reserves, and family time rather than a packed commute.
A Few Minutes from Hurstville Grove — First Class on Us
Most enquiries from Hurstville Grove are parents of young kids after a bit of structure, or adults finally giving something they have long considered a go — and both fit in easily. Whichever it is, the first class is a normal class, not a sales pitch: take part or watch, see how the floor actually runs, and decide from there.

Common questions from families and adults looking for karate training near Hurstville Grove.
Room to run is great, but it is not the same as structure. Karate gives a child something to focus on — listening, repeating, working towards a clear standard rather than just burning energy. For a lot of Hurstville Grove families that focus is exactly the missing piece: the freedom at home, balanced by an orderly, disciplined hour on the mat each week.
Genuinely, yes. Our adult classes welcome complete beginners, and plenty of our adult students started later in life having never trained. You work on fitness, self-defence and traditional technique at a pace suited to an adult body, not pushed to keep up with twenty-year-olds. Many older students find the balance, flexibility and stress relief similar to something like Tai Chi, with real self-defence on top.
Controlled. A traditional dojo runs on respect and quiet focus, not shouting or aggression — students bow on and off the mat and work with care, not ego. That calm, orderly feel is part of what draws settled families from the Grove. Parents are welcome to watch any class, any time, so you can see the atmosphere for yourself before deciding.
Our Little Champions program starts at age 4 and runs to 7, using age-appropriate activities to build coordination, listening and confidence while teaching basic karate movements. It is kept fun and engaging for small kids and lays the groundwork for discipline and respect. From there they move into Kids Karate at 8, so the path is clear from the very beginning.
